The Advanced Soft Matter group focuses on the understanding of molecular self-assembly processes and to exploit these processes in the construction of functional materials. Tackling current challenges at the frontier of soft matter research is our main motivation. Main areas of application are in biomedical materials, fuel cells, surfactants and gels, liquid crystal polymers, coatings, and emulsions. We have extensive experience in the design and synthesis of new small molecules, polymers, and nanoparticles, and the characterisation of their self-assembly processes across several length and time scales. Many of these soft materials have a high water content and we have extensive experience in aqueous chemistry, and assembly processes in water.
We are part of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology, and the Delft Process Technology Institute.
